Integrating the Social Sciences

The second major theme of my research is the question of how to integrate different theories, methods, and forms of evidence in the social sciences. In particular, I have been asking:

  • What are the various methodological issues that arise from attempts to use various forms of psychological evidence in economics?
  • When making causal inferences, it is possible to integrate evidence from standard quantitative statistical techniques with evidence from qualitative research designs, in particular comparative case study methods?

I am leading a European Research Council project "Qualitative and Quantitative Social Science: A Unified Logic of Causal Inference" between 2017 and 2022 to look into the latter question.
